A cozy, well-lit home office with a laptop, coffee mug, and small potted plant on the desk. In the corner, a relaxed senior dachshund with a speckled double dapple coat lounges on a soft blanket, exuding calm and charm. Text overlay reads: "Hold Out for a Great Match โ€“ Your Self-Care Matters."

Itโ€™s one of my favorite interview questions to ask a candidate:
โ€œThis job can get pretty stressful. How do you practice self-care?โ€

Recently, a client absolutely nailed this question โ€” calm, thoughtful, and with practical examples that showed they could handle pressure without burning out.

But then they followed up with something brilliant:
โ€œHow does your company encourage self-care?โ€

๐Ÿšฉ๐Ÿšฉ The answer?
โ€œWellโ€ฆ sometimes we let people come in an hour later than normal.โ€

Yikes.

Hereโ€™s the truth: as much as a company is assessing whether youโ€™re right for them, youโ€™re also assessing if theyโ€™re right for you.
Pay attention to how they value their teamโ€™s well-being โ€” or if they even
do.

Your career is a relationship. You wouldnโ€™t settle for a partner who ignores your needs, so why settle for an employer who does?

Hold out for a great match. Your health, happiness, and long-term success are worth it.
