Teachers

Can you relate?

  • “Yesterday I left work at 4, went home, and cried myself to sleep. I need to get out asap.”

  • “I can’t do this anymore. I am constantly anxiety-ridden, sleep-deprived and I feel like a failure at work and at home. I am sad and tired of longing to feel like myself again.”

  • “I’m hanging on by a thread at work, I’ve even applied for a few paraprofessional jobs, but can’t afford to take a 50% pay cut.”

  • “It has taken me a while to realize that my job is like a bad relationship. I do love the kids. There are fun things that bring fulfillment. But then there are other things that send me to the corner in a fetal position.”

  • “Imagining a life not teaching feels like a weight could be lifted from my shoulders! I’m exhausted but I have hope!”

It’s almost impossible to describe the job to those who have never been in the classroom.

With 18 years of teaching Spanish (and 16 more to go), I was tired.

More like exhausted.

I’d give my all at school and come home drained. Empty.

I was living for the weekend and counting down the days until the next break.

“There’s got to be more to life, right?”

I was desperate for:

  • a flexible schedule

  • work/life balance

  • better mental health

  • happiness + joy

  • attainable goals

  • professional growth

  • fair compensation

  • feeling valued + appreciated

Teachers, I know you’re struggling and it’s not your fault.

You have some of the biggest hearts and most solid work ethic out there.

If you’re ready for a change, please know that you have options.

You DO have skills that are in demand + you DO NOT have to live like this. Pinky swear.

YOU CAN

  • have work/life balance

  • be encouraged to learn + grow

  • be trusted to do your job without jumping through hoops

  • have opportunities to move up

  • feel safe, comfortable + valued

  • find work that brings you joy + compensates you fairly

It’s my honor to support my fellow transitioning teachers as you make the brave (and let’s be real – scary!) decision to leave the classroom. I put my heart into our work together because I know what you’re trying to escape and I want it for you!

You deserve a life that you love. There is JOY on the other side!

Molly's Story

Molly was cautiously optimistic.

She had previously hired another resume writer and wasn’t getting anywhere.

"Each day that passes, I am more and more eager to get this going!! I’m sure you know what I mean."

I do. Do I ever!

"Teaching did me in today, but I’ve been reading your testimonials and I’M REALLY EXCITED FOR THAT TO BE ME!🥳"

This FORMER ELA teacher has worked with traumatized youth in residential foster care and juvenile detention but interestingly enough – it was her public school teaching job that pushed her to the brink.

"Public school blew me away and was the nail in my teaching career coffin! (May it rest in eternal peace! 😄)"

As an introvert, Molly is never really comfortable in the spotlight, but she shares...

"This is different because I want others to be INSPIRED by our story, and to know and believe that THERE IS HOPE for them, they can escape, too!"

This is her response to my asking “Why now?”:

"There are 35 or more students in my class at any given time. And while I love each and every one of them, I am 100% overwhelmed and drowning every single day. I am grading and planning after school every day. I dread getting up in the morning because I am exhausted in a way that sleep simply can’t fix, and I loathe having to present to groups of rowdy teens who act as though it is physically impossible for them to be quiet. (They’re sophomores, I get it, but I don’t want to be subjected to this anymore.) I truly cannot live like this anymore. I’d love to hang in there till summer and get paid for that time off, but I also don’t want to die for my job! I absolutely cannot let this stress negatively affect my health. I consider myself a trouper, and I can withstand a lot, but this is my limit. I’ve got to get out, and I’m praying that you can help me. Thank you, Katie."

You make me sound so smart and cool and savvy!! You are like a magician-taking a bunch of teacher stuff and making it understandable to the rest of the world. I am nervous and excited and a little scared but I think I’m ready to get out there.

I struggled–for YEARS–trying to turn my very teacher-centered resume into something that would clearly and accurately show hiring managers just how transferrable those teaching skills truly are in corporate America. I was never able to nail it.

Katie? She NAILED IT!

Her charismatic energy, positive attitude, and brilliant writing and formatting skills genuinely turned my resume into gold.

The questionnaire prior to us getting started was super helpful, and Katie made certain to keep me in the loop with every edit and every draft–right to the very end.

I am so grateful for the time, effort, and care she put into helping me get one step closer to the life I’ve imagined.

She’s a rockstar!

Katie redid my resume. I cried when I read it. How can that be me!?!?!

But it was!

Her heartfelt work is the reason I got beyond the paper screen with over 200 applicants, and then got the job.

WOW!!!! I am absolutely in awe of the resume that Katie created for me!!! I have been thinking of leaving education for over a year now and I FINALLY took the leap and hired Katie to transform my education resume into one that is better suited for the business/corporate world. I have to say, this was one of the smartest and best investments that I have made for myself. Katie laser-focused in on the career that I would like to pursue and asked very thorough and detailed questions pertaining to my interest. Katie really exceeded my expectations and I highly recommend her.

There are not enough words to describe what a Godsend Katie Travis is when it comes to resume writing. Unlike others, she takes the time to get to know her clients, their frustrations, goals, desires for the career change, skills, etc. Advice is given throughout the process and questions asked so that she makes sure to provide the best resume possible. I never would’ve known how to transfer my teaching skills to match that of the business world. Hiring Katie is a worthwhile investment for your future out of teaching, and for the peace of mind that many of us teachers are looking to get.

After months of applying, I turned to Katie Travis to design my resume. After months of trying on my own, I began to get noticed for my transferable skills. A manager even referenced my resume in an interview! I’m excited for a future with a company who values me and strives to appreciate their employees!

Katie knows how to translate teacher skills into corporate skills, and you won’t believe just how valuable you are. As a downtrodden teacher who is awful at selling themselves, I was amazed at all Katie got out of the questionnaire. She also writes a heck of a cover letter including a lot of the things recruiters are looking for.

Everything is editable as well, so as I add new things to my resume it’s very easy to tweak. Highly recommend this lovely lady!

Katie is great! I could not have done my resume by myself. Being a teacher for so many years made me feel useless outside of the profession. Katie turned my skills into corporate lingo and has increased my worth.

Katie was so thorough and responsive through the whole process of revamping my resume to change the focus from K-12 education to instructional design. She was able to synthesize a wide range of experience and skills into logical, cohesive sections, and she included those all-important keywords that will get me through any ATS filters with flying colors! Best of all, my resume makes it clear that I have so much to offer a potential employer. “Oh, yeah, I guess I DID do that, didn’t I? That too…Oh, and that!” That’s confidence in my own worth that will come across loudly and clearly in interviews. THANK YOU SO MUCH!

2 words after viewing the first draft of my resume were: OVERWHELMED AND OVERJOYED.

I’m sure you’ve heard it before, but seeing all this is overwhelming…I mean, I could have NEVER imagined!!! You have a gift and are incredibly talented at what you do. I’m in awe! I am suddenly feeling overqualified and underpaid for the current job at hand. 😂🤣 I cannot express my gratitude enough! I’m so thankful for you and am hopeful that with your help and expertise, something better is meant for me. I was initially hesitant to make the commitment, but I am so glad that I did. Networking and applying…here I come! Thanks to you, I’m extremely well prepared!
